Common Open Policy Service Local Policy Module requires an additional installation procedure beyond that of the Resource Kit.
The installation program, Copslpm.exe, installs and configures COPS LPM as follows:
Components
Copslpm.exe copies the following DLLs to the \System32 directory:
- Icopslpm.dll
- Icopsmsg.dll
Registry Settings
Copslpm.exe configures the following registry settings during installation:

Registry settings required by Icopslpm.dll
- "EventMessageFile" should contain %SystemRoot%\System32\Icopslpm.dll.
- "TypesSupported" should be set to 0x7.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\COPS LPM\ServerConfig
- "BackupServer" should have backup server's DNS name or IP address.
- "PrimaryServer" should have primary server's DNS name or IP address.
- "RetryInterval" is the retry interval (in milliseconds) that LPM should wait before attempting to connect to a server (primary, secondary, or redirected) when a prior attempt has failed. The install program does not create this entry. In absence of this entry, the DLL assumes a default value of 60000.
