A caching-only server performs queries, caches the answers, and returns the results. The results are not authoritative for any domains, and they only contain information cached while resolving queries. When determining whether to use a caching-only server, keep in mind that when the server is initially started, there is no cached information. The information is accumulated over time as the server processes requests. However, if you are dealing with a slow link between sites, a caching-only server provides less traffic than other types of server because there are no zone transfers taking place.
To create a primary or secondary zone for this server in DNS Manager, click the server name in the server list, and click New Zone in the DNS menu.
