System requirements

Windows Media Load Simulator can be run on Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 with Service Pack 4 (SP4) and can be used to test only a server running Microsoft Windows Media Services version 4.0 that uses an Intel processor. The following hardware and software configuration is recommended for a Windows Media Load Simulator client:

• Windows NT Workstation 4.0 with SP4 or later
  
  
• Pentium II 266 megahertz (MHz) or higher
  
  
• 64 megabytes (MB) of memory
  
  
• 10 MB of free disk space for the application and for log file storage
  
  
• 100 MB Fast Ethernet connection
  
  
• Microsoft Windows Media Player version 6.2 or later installed

In addition, the Windows Media server that you want to test must have a valid Advanced Streaming Format (.asf) file named WMLoad.asf stored in its home publishing point (usually SystemDrive\ASFRoot). Windows Media Load Simulator cannot access the server if this file is not present. For more information see Enabling the Windows Media server for load-testing.
