To log load-test results

  1. On the Tools menu, click Settings.

  2. On the Logging tab, click Load Simulator log file to save the test results generated by Windows Media Load Simulator or click Performance Monitor log file to save a report generated by Windows NT Performance Monitor.

Note If you select Performance Monitor log file, performance counter values are captured and recorded in the log at an interval you specify in Performance MonitorÆs periodic update interval. The default value is five seconds. You can set this interval anywhere in the range from one second to 30 seconds. For more information about the performance counters that are logged, see Analyzing the Performance Monitor log file.

  3. Specify a location where the log files are stored, or accept the default log file locations.

Load-testing results are stored in a comma-delimited (CSV) file (a file that contains columns of data separated by commas and rows of data ending in carriage returns) that can be viewed in Microsoft Excel. By default, the log files are stored in the following locations on the computer that is running Windows Media Load Simulator:

Notes

Each new load test replaces the existing log unless you change the file name for the log.

If you pause or stop a load test, then restart it, the existing log will continue to accumulate test results after restart.

If you run multiple instances of Windows Media Load Simulator on one computer and enable logging, be sure that the load-test results for each load simulator are logged to a unique log file.
