Detecting unauthorized load-testing on the Windows Media server

A user is required to provide an e-mail address during installation of Windows Media Load Simulator. The load simulator cannot be installed without this information. This installation requirement provides a method for the user to identify themselves during the testing process; however, the e-mail address is not guaranteed to be correct.

If you enable logging for unicast clients on the Windows Media server while it is in service, this e-mail address will appear in the cs-uri-stem field in the unicast client information log when the user runs Windows Media Load Simulator against the server. This e-mail address appears in the log entries that indicate the beginning of a load test, for example:

cs-uri-stem

mms://154.53.219.121/wmload_client&email=user@company.com&version=4.0
&guid=guid_number

The following information is present in the cs-uri-stem entry.

For more information about logging unicast client information on the Windows Media server, see Logging unicast client information in the online help for Windows Media Administrator.
