Security Zones

In Windows NT and Windows 95/98, Security Zones provide protection for your computer and your privacy without interrupting you with repeated warnings while youÆre using the network or visiting Web sites that youÆve already decided you can trust. Features for corporate administrators allow companies to set automatic boundaries so users do not have to make security decisions on a case-by-case basis.

Internet Explorer v4.0 provides different levels of security depending on which security zone youÆve assigned a Web site to. For example, itÆs likely that you fully trust sites on your companyÆs intranet, so you probably want to allow all types of active content to run there. You may not feel so confident about sites on the Internet, so you can assign them to the Untrusted zone, where you can prevent active content from being run and can prevent code from being downloaded to your computer.
