Proxy Server

A proxy application serves as a firewall by separating the connection between the sender and receiver. All input is redirected to a different port, preventing an attacker from obtaining addresses and details about an internal network.

Proxy servers can present one corporate entry point for Internet services, such as HTTP, FTP, and SNMP. For example, an HTTP proxy is used for World Wide Web access and presents one organization-wide address (IP address) to the Internet. It can also channel and track all user requests to the Internet, returning the userÆs unique IP address.
