POTS

The Plain Old Telephone System is the worldwide voice telephone network. Starting as an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S., most of the remaining analog lines run from the house or office to the telephone companyÆs central office (CO).

POTS is also called PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).
