A pathway into and out of the computer. Serial and parallel ports on a
personal computer are external sockets for plugging in communications lines, modems,
and printers. In programming, a port can be any symbolic interface to and from
an application or utility.
A server application is assigned a port number to channel data to the correct
service.

NT.
