Perl
The Practical Extraction Report Language is a programming language freely
available for Unix, MVS, VMS, MS/DOS, Macintosh, OS/2, Amiga, and other operating
systems. Written by Larry Wall, Perl combines syntax from several Unix utilities and languages. Perl handles a variety of system administrator
functions. Because of its string handling capabilities, it is used on Web servers. Perl has enjoyed recent popularity for programming World Wide Web electronic
forms and is generally used as glue and as a gateway between systems,
databases, and users.
