FSP

The File Service Protocol is an alternative to FTP. It accesses anonymous archives, can recover from an interrupted file transfer (and download only the remaining portion), does not require a username or password, and encounters fewer server traffic jams.

FSP is mostly used to retrieve GIF files in the background, but the program is simple and effective. More and more administrators are installing FSP servers because it reduces the load on their machines.

The alt.comp.fsp newsgroup often lists accessible FSP sites. The FSP FAQ is available at http://mclachlan.rdg.ac.uk/misc/fsp/faq/faq.htm.
