BSD Unix

Berkeley Software Distribution Unix was developed by the Computer Systems Research Group of the University of California at Berkeley from 1979 to 1993. BSD enhancements, known as the ôBerkeley Extensions,ö include networking, virtual memory, task switching, and large file names up to 255 characters.

Berkeley Software Design, Inc. (BSDI), Colorado Springs, CO (http://www.bsdi.com) a private company founded in 1991, continues to develop BSD/OS.
