Description:

The yppasswdd service was detected as running. yppasswdd is a daemon that changes (or installs) the network password associated with the userÆs username (your own name by default) in the Network Information Service (NIS) database.

Remedy:

Disable the yppasswdd service if it is not needed.

To disable the service, follow these steps:

  1. Edit the /etc/inetd.conf (or equivalent) file.
  2. Locate the line that controls the daemon.
  3. Type a # at the beginning of the line to comment out the daemon.
  4. Restart inetd.
