This is Readme.txt for HotSync Reminder version 1.1 This file contains important installation and usage instructions. Please read the entire file carefully. HotSync Reminder is ©1999 by Roger Chaplin http://home.att.net/~foursquaredev/ ---------------- | Introduction | ---------------- HotSync Reminder is a utility that reminds you when it has been too long since you have done a HotSync operation. HotSync Reminder requires either Hackmaster (shareware, available at http://www.daggerware.com), or EVPlugBase (freeware, available at http://www.evscl.com/en/en_evplug.html).If you decide to use HackMaster, please register it. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT EVPLUGBASE: It has been reported that EVPlugBase causes sporadic fatal errors on the Handspring Visor. If you have a Visor, Foursquare Development recommends that you use HackMaster instead of EVPlugBase. ---------------- | Installation | ---------------- The HotSync Reminder distribution includes this readme file and a PRC file: HSReminder.prc. Use the following procedure to install HotSync Reminder: 1. If you have not yet installed HackMaster or EVPlugBase, do so 2. Install the PRC file onto your Palm Computing device 3. Launch HackMaster or EVPlugBase and enable HotSync Reminder 4. Tap on the + button next to HotSync Reminder in the HackMaster control panel to bring up HotSync Reminder's preferences screen. Even though you have enabled HotSync Reminder, it will remain inactive until you have performed this step. --------------- | Usage Notes | --------------- HotSync Reminder warns only when you power on your device using one of the five hardware buttons: the green power button; Date Book; Address List; To Do List; Memo Pad. It does not warn if your programmed time has expired while the device is powered on; it warns only when you are turning the device on. It does not warn if the device is awakened by an alarm or by pressing the HotSync button on the cradle. ----------------- | Compatibility | ----------------- HotSync Reminder runs on any Palm Computing platform device, with any version of Palm OS. There are some known conflicts between HotSync Reminder and other apps and hacks: StayOffHack: HotSync Reminder is compatible with StayOffHack v1.4. Earlier versions of StayOffHack are rendered completely ineffective by HotSync Reminder. Commander: If you have a Startup Run command programmed in Commander, a HotSync Reminder popup will override the Run command. However, on those times that you power on your device and the HotSync Reminder popup does not occur, your Run command will work normally. ----------- | License | ----------- HotSync Reminder is nag-free time-out-free shareware. You are free to try it out, but if you find it useful enough that you continue to use it past the 30-day trial period, you are obliged to register and pay. You are entitled to use a registered copy of HotSync Reminder on a single handheld. If you wish to install and use it on more than one device, you must register a copy for each device. Registered users get first priority for support, and receive upgrades at no extra cost. --------------- | Registering | --------------- Registration of HotSync Reminder costs $5.00. You can register at either PalmGear H.Q. or Handango (formerly PalmCentral). PalmPilotGear H.Q.: 2500 East Randol Mill Road, Suite 117 Arlington, TX 76017 800.741.9070 http://www.palmgear.com/ Handango: http://www.handango.com/ ------------------ | Known Problems | ------------------ 1. If the reminder pops up when you turn on your device, and then you either turn your device off or let it auto power off before you dismiss the reminder, you will have trouble turning your device back on. That is, when you turn it on, it will immediately turn itself back off when you relese the power button. To workaround this problem, keep holding the power button down to keep the device turned on, and tap either of the buttons on the reminder dialog. -------------------- | Revision History | -------------------- October 25, 1999 v1.1 o Bugfix: incompatibility with Commander.
