Release 5 Documentation

Finally, a clock that is a clock.  FPSClock 2 provides what users are looking for, simplicity:

Main display features:
+ LARGE digital display, configurable for military or am/pm time.

+ Today's date.

+ Alarm controls, including on or off, alarm time, and repeat.

+ To set a new alarm time, choose either the hour or minutes and click up or down on the scroll arrows to the right.  Passing 12 on the hour display changes the setting from am to pm.  The alarm cannot be set to reflect military time (only am/pm).

+ Check "Repeat" to repeat the alarm until the alarm is manually turned off.

+ Activate the days preference by checking the "Days" check box (also shows the days that are set).  Uncheck so the alarm rings at the next set time.

+ Configure the sleep time while the clock is visible, from 1-5 minutes or Never (does not affect system settings).

+ On screen display of preferences: days set, rings, snooze, and silent ring settings.

+ Choose the (i) in the top left corner for more information or the ? in the lower right corner for the next alarm setting.

Preferences / Settings:
+ Clock time format: Military (13:00) or AM/PM (1:00pm)

+ Number of times the alarm will ring: (& flash the BackLight if checked).   Infinity rings 254 times.

+ Snooze time in minutes: How long the alarm will sleep until it rings again.

+ Days to ring the alarm.  If the "Days" checkbox is set on the main screen, the alarm will ring at the set time on the days set in the preference screen.   For example, checking MTWTF with the checkbox set on the main screen will cause the alarm to ring at the designated time on each of these days.

+ Set which type of alarm sound to play.

Alarm BackLight Options: *
+ Flash the BackLight with the alarm: BackLight will be toggled on/off with every alarm sound.

+ Turn On BackLight after alarm: After all alarm sounds, the BackLight will stay on.

+ Silent alarm, Flash BackLight Only: Don't ring the alarm, just flash the BackLight.

* These features only available on PalmOS 2.0 or newer. (PalmPilot Personal, Professional,  Palm III, V, or VII). These features will exist but be useless on 1.0 devices (1000/5000) that were upgraded with a 2.0 memory card. The OS supports the BackLight, but the hardware does not.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: I don't think the Pilot's alarm is loud enough to wake me.
A:
The alarm may not be that loud, but hearing it ring 10 or 20 times will annoy you awake.  There are utilities out there that claim to adjust the Pilots volume, but we don't support their use or notice a difference in the alarm sound.  The PalmIII and later models (IIIx, V, and VII) seem to have a better alarm than earlier models.

Q: What will flashing the BackLight do to my Pilot ?
A:
Turning on and off the BackLight does nothing to your PalmPilot.  FPSClock does not use any non-standard routines to perform this function (FPSClock does the same thing as turning on and off your backlighting with the on/off button).  The displays are not affected by the backlighting, as far as durability is concerned.

Q: Why does the alarm seem late ? I mean I set the darn thing for 6:00 AM sharp and it doesn't ring until 6:04 AM.
A:
There is a confirmed PalmOS bug that may or may not be causing it. We believe it is. It's somewhat rare and effects all alarm playing applications not just ours. This bug is characterized as lost alarms and or alarms up to 10 minutes late. This includes but is not limited to Date Book alarms. There has been an official "Yep, it's a bug" from Palm/3Com but no notification on if, when, or how it may be addressed. If you continue to see alarm deltas larger than 2 minutes, send a notification to both fps@infinitysw.com and support@palm.com. They need to hear it from you, the paying customer.
