How to Play
Sokoban is very simple to play. The object is to move all the boxes to the spaces marked with X's in the maze. You may only push boxes. You cannot pull them, so it's possible to get a box stuck against a wall, or in a corner. Also, you cannot push more than one box at a time.
Tapping in the maze to move boxes:
If you tap directly in a straight line from your current position, your player will move in a straight line to the new location.
If there is a single box inbetween your current position and where you tapped, your player will push the box.
If there are more than one box, or a wall separating you from the position you tap on, you will not move (see smartmove below)
SmartMove:
SmartMove is a feature that makes it much easier to play Sokoban. You can simply tap anywhere in the level,
and if it is possible to move to that position, the player will move there. The player will traverse the
shortest path to reach the new location. No boxes will be moved in order to reach the destination. SmartMove is only used for navigating quickly around the maze, not for moving boxes.
On-screen arrow buttons:
Tapping these on-screen arrows will move the player one position at a time.
Physical buttons:
Pressing the page-up, page-down, address, and to-do buttons will also move the player one position at a time. You can disable these buttons in preferences if you do not wish to use them in the game.
Menus
Additional options are available via the menus:
Sokoban | Reset Level -- resets the current level
Sokoban | Goto Level -- launches dialog to let you pick a new level
Sokoban | Undo -- undoes the last move
Sokoban | Save position -- saves the current game board in memory
Sokoban | Recall position -- returns to previously saved position
Sokoban | Preferences -- launch the preferences dialog
Preferences:
The following options can be changed under the Preferences dialog:
Tapping option: when tapping in a line from your current position to move a box, Sokoban
can either push the box to where you tapped, or move the man to where you tapped (pushing
the box one space farther). Try each way to see which one you prefer.
SmartMove: you can enable/disable smart move. Also you can specify how fast the player
should move around the screen. Adjust it to your liking.
Enable Hardware Buttons: turn on or off the hardware buttons (page-up, page-down, address, todo)
Background color: (only available on Palm units with color screens). This option lets you
pick the color of the background of the maze.
Undo
You can undo the last 10 moves. Usefull if you accidentally push a box into a corner or against a wall. Either select the undo menu option, or write the graffiti backspace character to activate undo.
Loading additional levels
The paid version of Sokoban will allow you to play addition levels that you install. Once you've installed additional level .pdb files, they will show up in the
Goto Level dialog box. Tap the drop down list to select which set of levels you want to play.
