At the time of this writing, this includes the Pilot 1000 and 5000, PalmPilot Personal and Professional, Palm III, Palm IIIe, Palm IIIx, Palm IIIxe, Palm IIIc, Palm V, Palm Vx, Palm VII, IBM WorkPad (all models), Handspring Visor (all models), and TRG Pro. --------------- | Quick Start | --------------- Step 1: Install the included scoresheet.prc on your Pilot. If you are unsure how to do this, consult the handbook that came with your organizer, and look for "Installing Applications". Step 2: Start the program. If you are upgrading from version 1.4 or 1.5, your player lists and preferences are preserved. Also, if you have registered one of these versions, you will not have to re-enter the registration code. --------- | Usage | --------- Entering new players: --------------------- Tap the "New player" button, or just start writing. New players are assigned to the presently active category (the popup trigger in the upper right corner of the screen). If the active category is "All", new players are assigned to the "Unfiled" category. Maintaining separate lists of players: -------------------------------------- Tap the category trigger to pop up the list of player lists. To switch to a different list, tap its name. To create a new list, or rename an existing list, tap "Edit Categories..." Scoring: -------- ScoreSheet can be made to work in two different ways: scoring in rounds, and scoring in "dribs and drabs" (a term suggested by a customer). Scoring in rounds is the only method supported by ScoreSheet in v1.5 and earlier. Scoring in rounds is useful for games where all players score at once, such as card games that are played in hands, or where each player scores in turn one after another, such as Scrabble. Other games, such as certain dominoe games, do not progress in rounds. For these games, disable the ScoreSheet Scoring in rounds feature. Scoring in rounds: ------------------ Beside each player's name is a checkbox, indicating whether that player has been scored for this round. If the box is unchecked, tap the player's name to pop up the score form, where you can enter the player's score, then tap the Add score button. If a player's box is checked, tapping his name will present you with the opportunity to undo the player's last score, or to go to the player's Details view. Once a score has been entered for every player, ScoreSheet unchecks all the boxes, and performs sorting by score (if you have enabled it on the Preferences screen). Scoring in dribs and drabs: --------------------------- When you tap a player's name, the score form pops up, letting you enter a score for that player. There is no explicit undo feature, but you can change a player's previous score using the Details view. Once you have entered a score for a player, ScoreSheet sorts by score (if you have enabled this on the Preferences screen). Bone Tracker: ------------- Keeping track of players' scores is only one part of the task of a score keeper when you're playing dominoes; you also have to keep track of which bones have been led to begin a hand. To use ScoreSheet's Bone Tracker, go to the Preferences screen and select the size of the domino set you are using. A small domino button will appear at the bottom of the main screen, right next to the "Reset scores" button. Tap this domino button to bring up the Bone Tracker screen. You can check and un-check the boxes as you like. When you reset scores using the "Reset scores" button, ScoreSheet also unchecks all the bone checkmarks for you. Bidding ------- If you are scoring a game that involves bidding, enable this feature on the Preferences screen (Menu->ScoreSheet->Preferences from the main screen). Then at the beginning of a round, tap the player name that holds the bid, enter the bid value, then tap the Bid button. This causes a diamond to appear beside the player's name, indicating that this player holds the bid. If you have made a mistake (selected the wrong player, or entered the wrong amount), simply follow the procedure again give the bid to the correct player or enter the correct bid amount. When you enter a score for the player who holds the bid, if that score is greater than or equal to the bid amount, the score is added to his total. Otherwise, the bid amount is deducted from the player's total. Resetting scores: ----------------- The Reset scores button on the main view resets every player's score to the programmed reset value. You can change this reset score on the Preferences screen. By default, it is zero. Only the players in the active list are affected; scores in other lists are unchanged. If the bone tracker is active, the Reset scores button also clears all of the bones checkboxes. Editing player details: ----------------------- The Details view allows you to change a player's name or score, and allows you to move the player from one list to another. It also displays the player's score history, and allows you edit any of his past scores. Tap the player's name in the main view, then tap Details. Changing a past score: ---------------------- On the Details view, scroll the History list until the score you want to change is visible. Tap that score, and a Change Score dialog will pop up. Clearing the player list: ------------------------- To remove all players from the active list, use Menu->Player->Delete all. ScoreSheet preferences: ----------------------- Use Menu->ScoreSheet->Preferences to access the Preferences screen. There, you can control: the display font the Bone Tracker the scoring mode (Score in rounds) the bidding feature sorting by score reset score --------------- | Registering | --------------- ScoreSheet is shareware. A single user license costs $6.00. The unregistered version limits you to two players. When you register you will receive a code to unlock the program, which will remove the 2-player limitation. Registration also entitles you to technical support. You may register ScoreSheet at either PalmGear H.Q or Handango. PalmGear H.Q.: 2500 East Randol Mill Road, Suite 117 Arlington, TX 76017 800.741.9070 http://www2.viaweb.com/pilotgearsw/rogerchaplin.html Handango: http://www.handango.com/ When you register at PalmGear H.Q. or PalmCentral, please include the RegCode that appears on the ScoreSheet registration screen (Menu->ScoreSheet->About, then tap the Unregistered Shareware button). Using this code will help to ensure that you receive the correct unlock key. To help ensure the accuracy of this code, you can copy and paste it into a Memo Pad memo, then HotSync that memo to your desktop computer, then copy from the Palm Desktop program into the PalmGear or Handango purchase form in your web browser. If you wish to register more than one copy, enter the Pilot User Name and/or RegCode for one of the devices on the online order form, and email the other Pilot User Names and/or RegCodes directly to foursquaredev@att.net. Since this is shareware, with try-before-you-buy opportunity, all sales are final. -------------------- | Revision History | -------------------- April 29, 2000 v1.6.1 o Bone Tracker now handles up to double-15 dominoes March 12, 2000 v1.6 o Added "dribs and drabs" scoring o Added color icons for the app launcher February 25, 2000 v1.5 o Fixes to make it run on Palm OS 3.5 January 2, 2000 v1.4 o Added support for bidding games May 6, 1999 v1.3 o Added score history o Added support for multiple display fonts March 22, 1999 v1.22 o Minor change to category popup lists to eliminate potential problem for PalmOS 3.1 (PalmIIIx and PalmV) users March 1, 1999 v1.21 o Widened score column on main screen so as not to truncate large scores o Already scored message box now contains player's name and last entered score February 26, 1999 v1.2 o Added the Bone Tracker February 22, 1999 v1.1 o Added support for categories o Added programmable reset score o Added initial score for new player o Added edit player name and score March 21, 1998 v1.0 First public release o Added the New player button on the main screen o Shareware version with code to unlock March 15, 1998 v0.03 First limited public release for alpha testing ----------- | Support | ----------- If you have suggestions, comments, constructive criticism, or questions, please let me know. Your suggestion may become the next new feature! --------------- | Limitations | --------------- 1. On the New Player and Player Details forms, the program makes no attempt to ensure that you enter only decimal digits (0-9) and the minus sign (-) in the Score field. If you enter non-digit characters in this field the program will not crash, but neither will you get a reasonable number. ------------------------ | Planned Improvements | ------------------------ None. ------------------------- | Ideas for Improvement | ------------------------- 1.
