The object of the game is to arrange as many as possible your ten cards into sets of sequences and groups. In this version, it is a two-player game, and you play against the computer. THE DECK ~~~~~~~~ One standard deck of 52 cards is used. Cards in each suit rank, from low to high as follows: Ace 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Jack Queen King The card values are as follows: Face cards(J, Q, K) = 10 points Ace = 1 point Number cards = Their spot value THE DEAL ~~~~~~~~ You get to start first for the start of a new game. For subsequent match the first player is control by the setting in FIRST PLAYER option in NEW GAME OPTIONS. Each player is dealt ten cards. The 21st card is turned face up to start the discard pile and the remainder is placed face down in the deck. OBJECT OF THE GAME ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The object of the game is to arrange as many as possible your ten cards into sets of sequences and groups. A sequence consists of three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order, such as 4S, 5S, 6S or 8H, 9H, 10H, JH. A group is three or four cards of the same rank, such as 7D, 7H, 7S. Note: S-Spade, C-Club, D-Diamond, H-Heart PLAY ~~~~ A normal turn consists of two parts: 1. The Draw. You begin your turn by picking a card from the deck or pile into the draw card. 2. The Discard. To end your turn, one card must be discarded. This is from either the draw card or the hand card. You may not be able to discard the draw card if it is selected from the pile and DISCARD PILE CARD in the NEW GAME OPTIONS is set to NEXT TURN. For the first turn, the draw is done in a special way. First, the first player can choose to take the card from the pile or to PASS. If the first player choose to PASS, the other player will now have the choice to take the pile card or to PASS. After this, each turn is play as usual. KNOCKING ~~~~~~~~ The match ends when a player KNOCKS. This can be done on any turn. If you set the KNOCK/GIN to PROMPT/AUTO in PREFERENCES, the computer will automatically initiate a Gin for you when you are able to. If you can KNOCK, the computer will prompt you. If you have set the KNOCK/GIN to manual, you will need to indicate that you want to knock by pressing the KNOCK/GIN button at the bottom right corner. This button will only be available when the MANUAL KNOCK/GIN is selected. To do a manual Knock/Gin, you need to do the following : 1. Select a card from Pile or Deck. 2. Select Knock/Gin button. The button will be highlighted to indicate you have selected to Knock/Gin. If you decide not to Knock/Gin, select the button again. 3. Complete the Knock/Gin by selecting a card to discard. The computer will not allowed you to Knock/Gin if you do not have sufficient sets in your Hand. After knocking, cards are open up and arrange into sets. Any remaining cards not in sets are called Deadwood. You are only allowed to Knock if your total Deadwood cards value is less than or equal to the Knock Value. KNOCK VALUE is set in the NEW GAME OPTIONS. Knocking with no Deadwood is called GOING GIN and earns extra bonus. You are never forced to knock. A player who is able to knock can continue playing, to try to get a better score. The opponent of the player who knocked must open up its card and arrange them into sets where possible. Provided the Knocker did not go gin, the opponent is allowed to Lay-off any deadwood cards by using them to extend the sets of the knocker. If the player goes gin, the opponent is not allowed to lay-off any cards. The knocker is not allowed to lay-off any cards onto the opponent's sets. The winner is the person going gin, or the person with the least Deadwood cards value. If the Deadwood value is the same, the opponent's wins. If the opponent's wins, this is called UNDERCUT and score extra bonus. SCORING ~~~~~~~ For Gin, the player score the value of the opponent's Deadwood cards, plus the Gin Bonus. A player who goes Gin can never be undercut, even if the opponent has no deadwood. For Knocking, the winner score the difference of the two player Deadwood cards. If the opponent's won by Undercut, a special bonus is given. The game continues with further match until one of the player's score reaches the target score. At the end of a game, the score are total and additional bonus is awarded. The person who reaches the target score first receive a GAME BONUS. For each player, they will receive a BOX BONUS for each matches won in the game. SHUT-OUT bonus is given if the looser does not win any match in the game. After all the bonuses have been added, the winner of the game is the one with the highest score and the NET SCORE is calculated which is the difference of the two player scores. The NET SCORE is used to enter into the HIGH SCORE TALLY. OKLAHOMA GIN ~~~~~~~~~~~~ To play Oklahoma Gin, select OKLAHOMA in the KNOCK VALUE of the NEW GAME OPTIONS. In Oklahoma variation, the first pile card determines the knock value. If the first pile card is a spade, the final score for the match (including any undercut or gin bonus) is doubled. This is indicated by the x2 symbol below the deck. If an ace is turned up, you may only knock by going gin. 3. TO PLAY ======= To start a NEW GAME, select MENU-GAME-NEW GAME.
