1. How it works

Calligra is a game in which you have to cover a board with pieces of different forms within a limited time. The falling pieces will be placed by tapping on a field of the board. Tap on the field on which the marked field of the piece shall be placed. The speed of the falling pieces can be modified at any time by the buttons on the bottom right.

On the left you can see all Calligra pieces. Each piece has a marked field (not shown on the left). The falling pieces cannot be rotated. You cannot change the marking.

Each board is divided into areas. Connected fields of the same color form an area. Example: the board on the left has 3 areas (3 concentric rings). When an area is totally covered with pieces, it will be released from the pieces. Then it will be colored differently and can be covered again. In the shown example the middle ring has been released.

2. Valuation

At the start of the game each player gets a bonus of 1000 points.
Valuations:

a piece that cannot be placed:
        -10 points

    a placed piece:
1 to 3 points (depending on the number of fields of the piece)

    one released area:
10 points multiplied by the number of fields of the area

all areas at least released once:
        500 points

This 500 point bonus will be granted only once in a game! Areas can be released multiple times and the points for that can be pocketed just so often!

3. First Tips

- Place your pieces so that the remainig free area provides room for as much as possible different forms of pieces.

- It is disadvantageous if you produce many islands of small free areas. In particular it is difficult to stuff holes at the borders.

- In the beginning of the game, concentrate on overlaying one area to release it - so you get room again to overlay.

- Even though you may get negative points, it can be advantageous to let a piece fall down instead of placing it disadvantageously.
