EarthTime ========= Author: Scott Powell (of Evolutionary Systems) Email: support@evolutionary.net Version: 1.91 (Shareware) Date: 17/11/2000 Install Notes ------------- Simply use the PalmPilot Install Tool to install the 'earthtm.prc' file onto your pilot. Instructions ------------ This application presents you with a world map, where you simply tap on the timezone you wish to obtain the time for. If you drag the pen around the screen, the timezone and time information is updated dynamically. You set the home timezone by tapping on the 'Home' radio button, then tapping on the timezone you consider home to be. (Initially the home timezone is assumed to be GMT). The selected timezone is remembered, so you should only have to do this once. NOTE: The PalmPilot's system time is considered to be the 'home' time. As you enter other timezones leave your system time the same. Tap on the 'Curr' radio button to go back to normal mode, where you tap on the map to see 'local' times. At the bottom of the screen are three configured city's times. With the registered version you can change these cities. In the City's dialog box enter the city names and the zone the city is in, entered as the hours difference from GMT. Note, for half zones a half hour out enter nnn.5 where nnn is the hours difference. Eg. Bombay is 5.5 NEW - Daylight Saving Time Tap on the Sun icons to toggle DST on and off. The sun with the filled (black) interior is the OFF state, the hollow (white) interior is the ON state. You can set DST for any of the three cities, for the current timezone, and for your 'home' timezone. ----IMPORTANT---- NOTE: when setting Daylight Saving Time on to your home timezone, the program considers that the system clock time has already been adjusted for Daylight Saving Time!!! NEW - City popup lists You can now tap on the city names at the bottom of the screen to popup a list of known cities which you can select from. The list shows the city name, GMT difference, and IDD dialing code for that city. If you want to compile your own city database just use the supplied Win95 program 'MakeCities.exe'. This takes as input a text file (sample included is called 'cities.txt'), and outputs a .PDB file which you can install onto your Pilot. NEW - 'what-if' time calculations The top right hand corner of the screen has two radio buttons which control the current mode of EarthTime. When in 'Now' mode the times are all calculated based on the PalmPilot's system time and the home settings (home timezone and DST). You can change to 'Other' mode to do hypothetical time calculations. That is, if the home timezone was somewhere else, and the time was some other time, what would the time be in the various timezones. When in 'Other' mode you can set the hypothetical home time by tapping the 'set' button, and you can set the home timezone and DST to whatever you like. These home settings are kept separate from the 'Now' settings. Registration ------------ If you like this program you should register.
