The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the
Bulgarian Socialist Party Georgi Parvanov and the President of the Greeek Coalition of the
Left and Progress have met today, 7 April 1999, in Sofia. At the end of their meeting the
two leaders have decided to make the following joint statement:
1. |
We confirm the persistent position that the
military hostilities against the FR of Yugoslavia do not lead towards finding of a
peaceful and a lasting outcome of the Kosovo conflict. We express deep concern and regret
with the continuing outflow of refugees from Kosovo and the growing number of civilian
casualties from NATO bombing. The escalation of military hostilities in the FR of
Yugoslavia are leading towards the deepening of the humanitarian drama and destabilization
of the region as a whole. |
2. |
We appeal for immediate cessation of all
hostilities in the FR of Yugoslavia and return of all refugees and initiation of the
negotiation process. All efforts directed towards a political resolution of the conflict
should be supported. |
3. |
We confirm the position that the political
solution of the conflict should be based on wide autonomy for Kosovo respecting the
sovereignty and territorial integrity of the FR of Yugoslavia. |
4. |
We express the position that all Balkan
states should refrain from any involvement in the military hostilities in the FR of
Yugoslavia. We appeal to the governments of the countries in the region to undertake joint
efforts for the political and lasting outcome of the conflict and for overcoming its
negative consequences on the development of the countries of South Eastern Europe. |
