General (Expiration Policy) Property Sheet

Use the options in the General property sheet to set expiration policies for newsgroups. These policies specify the article age limit and directory size limit for newsgroups; they also specify the newsgroups to which the policy applies. If a newsgroup is assigned to more than one expiration policy, the more restrictive policy applies. (For more information on creating expiration policies, see Defining Newsgroup Limits and Expirations.)

The General property sheet contains the following options:

Option Description
Policy name The name of the policy.
Affected newsgroups A list of the newsgroups to which the policy applies. The asterisk (*) wildcard character specifies multiple newsgroups. For example, rec.* denotes and includes all newsgroups starting with "rec."
Newsgroup The name of the newsgroup that is being added. Use the asterisk (*) wildcard character to specify multiple newsgroups. To add a newsgroup, type the name of the newsgroup being added, and then choose Add.
Articles older than Removes articles that are older than a specified number of days. The default is 7 days.
Combined group size Removes the oldest news articles when the combined size of all of the newsgroups to which this policy applies exceeds a specified limit. The default is 500 MB.
Both Enables both the Articles older than and Combined group size options.
