Use the Security property page to configure client access to News Server virtual directories. You can configure your virtual news server to allow anonymous access or to prompt for user name and password information prior to accessing a virtual directory. Internet Information Server verifies the user's identity and grants access to the requested content as determined by your Windows NT access control list (ACL) settings. You can use anonymous, Basic (clear-text), or Windows NT Challenge/Response authentication.

Windows NT Challenge/Response authentication uses a cryptographic technique for authenticating users. It does not require the user to transmit actual passwords across the network. For more information, see your IIS documentation.

Note You can use Windows NT Challenge/Response authentication only if the user's browser supports this authentication method. Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x or later is the only browser that currently supports Windows NT Challenge/Response authentication.
