This page specifies which newsgroups to replicate from a feed server. Because there can be many of them, newsgroups are specified by simplified regular expressions. The simplified expressions allow either a full newsgroup name containing alphabetic characters separated with a period ".", or a newsgroup name containing the characters ".*" at the end of the string, indicating that all sub-newsgroups should also be included. For example, the expression alt.* would include all newsgroups that begin with alt, excluding the group alt, where the expression alt.binaries would only include the alt.binaries newsgroup. Negation can be used by putting an exclamation mark at the beginning of the string, for example, !alt.binaries.warez.*. If no groups are specified, then no groups are allowed in the feed. Pattern matching runs from top to bottom until a match is found. If the matching pattern is not a negation, then the group is included in the feed. If the matching pattern is a negation, then the pattern is excluded from the feed. Matches other than the first are ignored. Because the list is unsorted, you must arrange the subscription list in a meaningful order. Newsgroup
