How The Channels Page Works
Functional Overview
On Exploration Air Channels page the user can subscribe to news as it is updated. The technology is new in
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, and the Exploration Air site uses a new feature of Microsoft Internet Information
Server 4.0 called CDX to make creating channels easier.
The best way to think of CDX is:
CDX = Channel Definition Format + Active Server Pages
Internet Explorer 4.0 supports the Channel Definition Format (CDF) to structure channel information, and Active Server Pages (ASP)
can be used to personalize channel data. Click here
for more information on CDF.
A Closer Look
The MakeCDF.cdx file is the key file. It reads the data from the
prFileList.txt file, which is used to build the headlines and the links to the
actual news material. This file is made up of chunks of data, each chunk is three lines. The first line is the headline.
The second line is the name of the full story, and the third line is the category.
Example:
EA Named Airline of the Year
