Utilities included as standard
Many utilities are included as standard with FaxWare. These utilities are
not necessarily required to send and receive faxes. However, in some cases
they provide very useful functions.
Evaluation of the send and receive logs
In addition to the export function of the Windows Frontend, there is a
further tool available to evaluate the FaxWare logs. The program REPORTER.EXE
runs under DOS and provides extensive evaluation possibilites. By means
of freely configurable initialization files (in ASCII format) the logs can be
evaluated according to the user, costs, period of time, status of dispatch,
line, etc. The selection can be carried out as printer output, in file form
or just on the screen. This way, nothing remains in the dark.
Data import from static databases
The utility FWIMPORT currently runs as an NLM on the server and reads out
any static databases with a fixed data record size. Through the time-driven
execution, all fax numbers and addresses from an order processing program
can for example be automatically adopted into the FaxWare phonebooks at night.
Therefore, the special maintenance of several phonebooks is no longer
necessary.
Data import from Windows ODBC databases
The Windows program FWODBC.EXE allows for importing numbers from external
databases which can be accessed over the ODBC standard. Therefore, data
from ODBC databases (e.g. Microsoft Excel, dBase, Gupta SQL, etc.) can be
adopted into the FaxWare phonebooks. A »misuse« of the phonebooks
is also possible. Book-keeping data can for example be imported and will
always be available and current on each client.
Print server for Windows
Sometimes not all faxes are to be printed centrally over the server.
With the Windows program FWPRINT.EXE you can for example print fax
files locally. This program runs on a client on the network. Depending
on the configuration, it automatically prints out all fax files sent
and received.
FaxWare configuration under Windows
Generally the FaxWare configuration is directly carried out on the
server console. With the utility FWCONFIG.EXE you can carry out all
essential settings of the FaxWare users and groups on a Windows client.
Of course, there are special safety mechanisms, so that an unauthorized
user cannot »exchange« for example the signature files of the
FaxWare users.
Interface for software developers
The Windows utility FAPIDDE.EXE establishes a connection possibility
to the FaxWare API interface (FAPI) by means of general DDE commands.
Therefore, programs which are not able to establish a connection to
the DLL interface can transport data to the FaxWare server over
»DDE message calls« or retrieve information.
Faxing with an HP PCL printer driver
The PCL Conversion Server currently runs as an NLM on the FaxWare server and
allows DOS users to fax from applications over an HP PCL compatible
printer driver. In the FaxWare configuration you only have to configure
a fax service (FileFax or Queue Services) for the conversion of HP PCL
jobs. Then fax jobs will be automatically forwarded to the PCL Conversion
Server, converted and transmitted back to FaxWare. The user does not notice
anything of this. In DOS applications for example, he will however have a
lot more design possibilities.
