Topics Covered In This Readmeca.txt File ======================================== Enabling the Color Advisor Using the Color Advisor Recommended Print Settings Improving Printing Speed Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions Enabling the Color Advisor ========================== Color Advisor is automatically installed with the printer driver software. After installing Color Advisor, you must activate it in the printer driver dialog box. You can access the printer driver either through an application's Print or Print Setup dialog, or directly through the Control Panel\Printers dialog. Select the "Setting" tab in the printer driver, and click on the green check mark to activate Color Advisor. Using the Color Advisor ======================== Color Advisor is a tool that assists you in colorizing documents. Color Advisor is optimized for use with text documents that have limited graphics. We recommend using Color Advisor primarily with word processing documents and to a lesser degree with spreadsheet and presentation files. When Color Advisor is activated, it will appear after you click File/Print from within your application. Color Advisor displays your document, and allows you to select color schemes, add color to text and graphics, add backgrounds and enhance text with special effects. Color Advisor has been tested to work with the following software applications: * Microsoft Corporation Word 6.0 & 7.0 Excel 5.0 & 7.0 PowerPoint 4.0 & 7.0 Write 3.11 Notepad 3.11 WordPad 1.0 Paintbrush Paint 1.0 * WordPerfect WordPerfect 6.1 Quattro Pro 6.0 Presentations 2.0, 3.0 * Lotus AmiPro 3.1 Lotus 1-2-3, Ver. 5 Freelance Graphics 2.1 * Intuit Quicken 5.0 Quickbooks * DogByte Pattern Maker 1.1 Please refer to the "Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions" section at the end of this file for more information regarding the use of the Color Advisor. Recommended Print Settings for Color Advisor ============================================= Color Advisor should be used with the "Color" and "Automatic" settings selected in the printer driver. To Improve Printing Speed: ======================================= *Turn off the "Print Manager" in the Windows "Control Panel". This may increase your printing speed by as much as 25% depending on the computer you are using. *Under the 386 Enhanced icon in the Windows 3.1x "Control Panel", add or create a permanent swap file that is from 4MB to 10MB. See your Windows documentation for these instructions. *Limit the number of colors on each page; too many colors can make the image confusing and less effective as well as cause the print speed to slow down. *Color Advisor is optimized for use with True Type fonts. To obtain the best performance, replace any bitmap fonts in your document with True Type fonts. Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions ======================================= 1. A mouse is required to use Color Advisor. Common "command keys" or "hot keys" are not supported. 2. Objects that will be smaller than 5 pixels in height or width when printed will not be colorized by Color Advisor. The screen fonts "Modern", "Script" and "Roman" have a thickness of only 1 pixel when printed, and cannot be colored by Color Advisor. 3. If your document contains ATM fonts and your video display is set to display 256 colors, changes to the colors in the Paint Box may not be immediately reflected in the text in the document viewing area. A Zoom/Unzoom, or any action that causes the document to be re-drawn will correct the display. 4. If you attempt to print using Color Advisor while your printer is off line, you must take the following steps to fully cancel the print job. First respond to the off line error message by pressing Retry. Next press the Cancel button in the Color Advisor print progress dialog box. 5. When using Color Advisor under Windows 95, use ALT-ESC to switch between tasks rather than ALT-TAB. 6. If your Word Perfect document contains pages in alternate page orientation (one page is landscape, the next is portrait) it will be sent to Color Advisor as multiple files. You may still use Color Advisor, but you will have to colorize each page separately. 7. Color Advisor does not support applications that use batch printing processes, such as Microsoft Office Binder. Please disable Color Advisor before printing with these applications. 8. If you are using fonts with large point sizes and text effects with Windows 95, it is recommended that you use the Spool Setting "raw" instead of the default Spool data format "EMF". 9. If you are using Windows 95, and your AmiPro portrait document prints out in landscape, turn off background printing in AmiPrint and the document will print correctly. 10. Color Advisor is not compatible with Microsoft BOB. Color Advisor will be automatically disabled when MS BOB is running. 11. It is recommended that you do not use Color Advisor when printing from the Windows File Manager. Instead print from within the application used to create the document. 12. Color Advisor does not fully support Quicken version 4.0. If you want to use Color Advisor with Quicken, please upgrade to Quicken version 5.0. 13. Color Advisor may not correctly display or print rotated text in Lotus 1-2-3. Eliminate rotated text in order to display and print the document correctly. 14. If images in Word Perfect Presentations do not display properly in Color Advisor, they may be device dependent bitmaps. To reformat the bitmaps so that they display properly, from the File menu select Save As. Then save the file as an 8 bit bitmap. Close the file, then reopen the new file. The images should now display correctly in Color Advisor. Tradenames mentioned may be trademarks and/or registered trademarks of their respective companies.
