Diagnosing the system using standard Windows tools

Although self-treatment of your computer is not recommended, you may wish to:

check the integrity of the file system on your hard drive (using the CHKDSK program) and repair file system errors. If there are many errors, it is necessary to create a backup of the most important files on removable media before fixing the errors;
scan your computer after you boot from the Windows rescue disk (if you have one);
use other standard Windows tools, for example, the scandisk utility.
