Selecting the Background
With the Avid Pan & Zoom effect you can select a field of view from the original image that does not fill the entire screen. The Background parameter determines what appears outside the field of view.
  The Background parameter is not keyframeable.
To set the background:
1.  Click the Background Fast Menu button, and select Color or Video.
  Color lets you select a background color.
  Video uses the video from the segment upon which you placed the Avid Pan & Zoom effect.
2.  (Option) If you selected Color, set the background color using one of the following methods:
  Manipulate the RGB sliders directly, or use the numeric keypad to enter values.
  Click the Other Options button to use the Windows Color dialog box or the Macintosh Color Picker.
  Click the Color Preview window, and use the eyedropper.
