Mounting and Unmounting Drives
The Unmount command makes selected media drives inaccessible to the Avid application. If the drive you unmount supports the auto-eject feature (for example, Jaz drives), the command ejects the disk from the drive.
By default, all media drives that are connected to your system are listed and can be seen by the Avid application. You can remove one or more drives from the list at any time by selecting File > Unmount. For example, if you want to use only some of your drives for a particular project, select Unmount to prevent other drives from appearing in the Avid application. The Unmount command does not remove drives from the system.
You can unmount one or several drive volumes mounted on the desktop at any time from within the Avid application. You can also remount all the drives and return them to the desktop. This is useful if you work with an extensive array of fixed-storage drives, which might involve many partitions divided among several projects; you can selectively mount and unmount drives according to use.
Shut down the system completely before you physically remove or addádrives.
On systems with multiple media drives, unmounting drives that hold media not needed for the current project can improve the performance of the Media tool. You need to unmount the drives before you can open the Media tool. See Using the Media Tool.
