Introduction 2. Supported Operating Systems 3. Release Notes ******************************************************************* 1. Introduction ================ This README file contains release notes for the Intel(R) Processor Frequency ID Utility v7.0 - Windows* version, describing any problems or issues that were known at the time of shipment. ******************************************************************* 2. Supported Operating Systems =============================== The Intel Processor Frequency ID Utility v7.0 - Windows version supports the following Microsoft* operating systems: Windows 98 (Second Edition) Windows ME (all versions) Windows 2000 Professional/Server/Advanced Server (all service packs) Windows XP Home/Professional (all service packs) ******************************************************************* 3. Release Notes ================= 3.1 Frequency ID support of Mobile Intel Celeron(R) processors Frequency testing and reporting is listed as being supported on Mobile Intel Celeron processors beginning with 450MHz. The Intel Processor Frequency ID Utility v2.5 and later supports frequency testing and reporting for Mobile Celeron processors beginning with processor classification = 0681. Frequency testing and reporting of Mobile Celeron processors with any previous processor classification is not supported by this utility, although some of them were manufactured to run as high as 466MHz. 3.2 L2 Cache size reporting on Mobile Intel Pentium(R) processors When testing older Mobile Intel Pentium(R) processors (133MHz - 266MHz) with the Intel Processor Frequency ID Utility under Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the L2 cache size is not available to the utility and is reported as 'N/A'. On other supported operating systems, the L2 cache size is reported correctly. 3.3 Package and logo displayed for Intel Pentium 4 processors The Intel Processor Frequency ID Utility v3.6 displayed an incorrect package type and logo for Intel Pentium 4 processors in the 478-pin package. Versions later than 3.6 correct this issue. 3.4 Extended test in battery-optimized mode When running on a system that is in battery-optimized mode, the utility may request to run an extended test to determine the frequency. While this test is running, do not change power management settings or plug the system into AC power. Doing so may cause incorrect frequency results in the utility. On some Mobile Intel Pentium III processor-based systems running Windows 95, 98, or ME operating systems, the extended test in battery-optimized mode will run for up to 15 minutes instead of the expected three minutes. 3.5 Changes from version 6.5 to 7.0 The Intel Processor Frequency ID Utility v7.0 adds support for Intel Celeron D processors and the latest Intel Pentium M, Intel Pentium 4, Mobile Intel Pentium 4, and Intel Celeron processors. The utility now displays the processor number to help identify newer Intel processors; see http://www.intel.com for details. Also, the utility displays Platform Compatibility Guide information for supporting Intel Pentium 4 processors. ******************************************************************* *Third-party brands and names are the property of their respective owners.
