Unregistered versions of Opera display an advertising banner in the top-right corner of the user interface. You can either:

Specify advertising preferences and receive ads that fit your interests
Leave the advertising preferences unspecified and receive a generic selection of advertisements

This information is only used to find interesting ads for you, and not for other purposes.
