In order to install Corel
Painter 8, you need the Corel Painter 8 serial number. Please keep this serial
number in a safe place in the event that you need to reinstall Corel Painter 8
or in the event that you need to call Corel Technical Support.
The Corel Painter 8 Content
CD includes a variety of additional content, including additional brushes, paper
textures, gradients, weaves, patterns, color profiles, etc. Please note that
not all versions of Corel Painter 8 include a Content CD.
In order to run the Corel
Painter 8 Interactive Tour on CD 1, you must have Macromedia Flash(TM) Player
installed on your computer. If you do not have it installed, you can download
it from the Macromedia Web site at: www.macromedia.com
. Please note that not all versions of Corel Painter 8 include the Corel
Painter 8 Interactive Tour.

Brushes:
1) If you create custom brushes and wish to share them
with other users, you must provide them with the .xml file, the .jpeg file (if
it is a captured dab brush only), the .nib file, and the .stk file. For
example, if you wish to share the Pencil variant, you must provide users with
the Pencil.xml file, Pencil.jpg (if it is a captured dab brush only),
Pencil.nib, and Pencil.stk.
2) If a brush preview cannot be generated in less than
15 seconds, a red X will appear on the preview pane of the Brush Creator.
3) When using randomizing and transposing Captured Dab
brushes, you may encounter a jpeg decoding error.
4) Corel Painter 8 brushes are not compatible with
previous versions of Corel Painter.
Digital Water Color:
1) Mac OS 9 Users Only: If your brush strokes begin to
paint with black (if black is not your currently selected color), undo the
brush stroke, save your file, and restart Corel Painter 8.
2) When using Digital Water Color if you do not want
your stroke to diffuse the strokes underneath, you must dry the canvas or layer
between strokes.
Memory:
1) Mac OS 9 Users Only: For the best performance in
Corel Painter 8, you should allocate as much memory to Corel Painter 8 as
possible.
User Interface:
1) Corel Painter 8 is not optimized for Large Font
Display on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Sketch Effect:
1) The Sketch Effect does
not work with Text or Shape Layers.
Layers, Layer Masks, and
Channels:
1) Deleting a layer mask from transparency will delete
the transparency for the associated layer.
2) If you have visibility masks saved in your files from
previous versions of Corel Painter, they will be merged with the mask when they
are opened in Corel Painter 8. To restore the contents of the visibility mask,
do the following: a) Choose the layer that had the visibility mask in previous
versions of Corel Painter; b) Click Layers, Create Layer Mask from
Transparency.
Text:
1) Corel Painter 8 supports Open Type Fonts in Mac OS X
only.
2) Exporting scripts that use the text tool will not
play back correctly when imported back into Corel Painter 8.
Color Management:
1) Macintosh Users Only: To load Color Profiles into the
Color Management dialog box, you must copy the Color Profiles from your hard
drive into the following location: Applications\Corel Painter 8\Color Profiles.
The next time you open the Color Management dialog box, the Color Profiles will
be available.
File Filters:
1) Corel Painter 8 does not support TIFF files with LZW
compression.
2) Corel Painter 8 does not support Adobe Photoshop
files with Layer Effects. If you have a layer effect in your Adobe Photoshop
file, it is recommended that you drop the layer effect to the canvas before
opening it in Corel Painter 8.
3) Corel Painter 8 only supports using Adobe Illustrator
8 files. If you are using a later version of Adobe Illustrator, save your file
as an Adobe Illustrator 8 file before importing it into Corel Painter 8.
4) In order to import and export QuickTime files, you
must have QuickTime installed on your computer.
File Paths:
1) Corel Painter 8 does not support using periods (.) in
file paths (example: My Documents\Corel.Painter.8)
2) Corel Painter 8 does not support file paths over 256
characters when saving files.
Online Help:
1) When you click an index entry that is associated with
two or more topics, the entry appears as a hyperlink and will display the
associated topics in the right frame. Clicking a topic or its page number takes
you to the corresponding page.
Third-Party Plugins:
1) Corel Painter 8 does not support packaged plugins. As
a result, plugin filters that ship with Adobe Photoshop 7 are not supported in
Corel Painter 8.
Note for Japanese Users:
1) If you are using Corel Painter 8 English on a English
Windows operating system, it is recommended that switch the locale to Japanese
by following the steps below:

Click Start, Control Panel,
Regional and Language Options
Choose the Advanced tab
Choose Japanese from the
Language for non-unicode programs drop-down list
Windows 2000:
Click Start, Control Panel,
Regional and Language Options
Click the Set Default button
Choose Japanese from the
drop-down list
2) Latin extended characters are not supported using
Corel Painter 8 English on Japanese operating systems.
