Project Level: Advanced

Curriculum Area: History and Social Studies, Information Technology, Mathematics, Science, Technology

Technologies Used: Email, Web Based Discussion Forum

Project Sponsor: Toyota, Toshiba, NSF, NCTM, UEN, and State of Utah

Full Project Description:
Tele-collaborate with field scientists and peers as you track the Western Tundra Swan migration from Alaska to California.
Use Internet resources to map their locations and study the biomes they inhabit. Learn the basics of probability as you try to correctly predict the next reported location.
Gain background information on the Swans and their migration corridor. Older classrooms can prepare corridor enhancement proposals to be reviewed by the Division of Wildlife Resources.

Objectives:
1) Increased undestanding of the basics of probabilty and statistics.
2) Increased understanding of the ecology and behavior of the Tundra Swan.
3) Better understanding of the geography of the Western United States.
4) Students will do real science and create proposals to solve a real world problem, corridor enhancement for the Tundra Swan.
