A. Introduction

1. Welcoming Words

Thank you for using MultiWin 2 from WDSoftware! This document has all that you need to run MultiWin 2 to its fullest, so read it thoroughly once you have installed the program.

2. MultiWin is Shareware - PLEASE READ

Yes, MultiWin 2 is shareware. It has taken many precious hours to develop MultiWin 2. Support this product by registering it. I already thank many of those who have already supported the original MultiWin. Without them, I could not have brought you MultiWin 2.

The only difference between the registered and the shareware version of MultiWin is that the shareware expires after 15 runs. Ií»m giving you a full chance to evaluate it thoroughly. It costs only $15 and you register it by a simple click of a button! After filling out the form to register, you will immediately receive your personalized registration key via e-mail.

Go to section F, í░Registering & Upgrading MultiWiní▒ for more information on registration.

B. Product Overview

1. Description

There are many times that using just one Windows isn't enough. Maybe there is a killer app that runs only on a localized version of Windows. Maybe it's one of those Windows 98 incompatibilities that makes you want to use Windows 95 again. But you just can't throw out the Windows you are using right now? Never fear! MultiWin enables you to install multiple versions of Windows 9x in just one system! Only one drive is needed to get you started, so partitioning isn't needed at all. Just install and go!

It's also very easy to use. Unlike other multibooters, which runs on cryptic DOS screens, MultiWin is a friendly Windows application. Plus, new in this version is the MultiBoot Wizard, which makes multibooting easy even for starters. Other improvements from the previous versions include dramatic speed enhancement and language-related bug fixes.

2-1. Features

l Multiboot between different Windows system in one partition

l Supports all versions of Windows 9x series, regardless of language

l Easy preparation for new Windows installation

l Unlimited capacity; install as much Windows as you want

l Multi-language support; English and Korean in current version

2-2. New in MultiWin 2

l Change Windows in single reboot (2 reboots in MultiWin 1)

l Extensions can be used in naming Windows directory (Extensions not supported in MultiWin 1)

l Introducing MultiBoot Wizard; multiboot without worry

l Settings can be saved via í«Saveí» button

l Automatically converts MultiWin 1 settings and data to MultiWin 2 format

l Problems with some localized Windows versions possibly solved

3. System Requirements

l A computer that can run Windows 9x OS

l 1 MB of Hard Disk space for MultiWin itself (3MB during install)

l Enough Hard Disk space to install another Windows

-Windows 95: 100 to 200 MB

-Windows 98: 200 to 300 MB

~The minimum value: You have few programs installed in the system.

~The maximum value: You have many programs installed.

~Above applies to English version. Localized versions may need 50 to 100MB more.

C. Installing and Uninstalling

1-1. Installing with Full Installation Package

MultiWin 2 comes with a complete installation program. Unzip the package to a temporary folder. Then, run Setup.exe and follow the instructions to install MultiWin 2.

1-2. What happened to Minimum Installation Package?

MultiWin 1 came in Minimum, as well as Full, package for compact download. However, it has been discovered that using older system files may cause problems when running MultiWin 2. Thus, Minimum package is no longer provided so that users will not encounter such problems from the beginning.

2. Uninstalling MultiWin 2

MultiWin 2 is easily uninstalled from í«WDSoftwareí» menu of the Start Menu by selecting í«MultiWin 2 Uninstallí». You can also uninstall MultiWin 2 from í«Add/Remove Programsí» applet in Control Panel. Find í«Wesleyí»s MultiWin 2í» in the list and double-click it.

D. Using MultiWin 2

1. Running MultiWin 2 for the First Time

When you run MultiWin 2 after installing, the first thing that appears is the í«New Windows Detected!í» dialog box. Follow the instructions on the screen and the current Windows will be included in the list.

2. Functions of the Controls

I. MultiBooting Tab

i) Current Windows: Displays the name of Windows you are using now.

ii) Change to: After you have selected the Windows of your choice in the listbox, press this button to reboot to that Windows. If the selected Windows is the same as the current Windows, it will not do anything.

iii) Description: You can change the selected Windowsí» description with this button. If youí»ve incorrectly entered a description for a certain Windows installation, this is where you can correct it.

iv) Install Another: When you want to install another Windows to your system, press this button. MultiWin 2 will prepare the system for it. You must have the Windows installation CD and a boot disk with CD-ROM support ready (the latter can be prepared during the process if you have selected í«MultiBoot Wizardí» mode) before doing so. Note that you MUST install Windows, or your previous Windows and/or MultiWin 2 will not function properly.

Boot with the boot disk and start installing Windows. When Setup asks you where your Windows will be installed, specify a folder (directory) that no other Windows is installed. If you doní»t do so, Setup overwrites your previous Windows installation, messing up the whole process.

After youí»ve finished installing Windows, run MultiWin 2. Youí»ll see the same dialog box that had appeared when youí»d run MultiWin 2 for the first time. Follow the instructions and the newly installed Windows will be added to the list. After this, you can use MultiWin 2 to multiboot between the two Windows using í«Change toí» button.

II. Options Tab

i) Language: Select the language MultiWin 2 will use. Current version supports English and Korean.

ii) Operation Mode: Decide how MultiWin 2 will behave (operate) in í«MultiBootingí» tab.

l MultiBoot Wizard: MultiWin 2 will guide you closely on multiboot operation with the new Wizard feature. It will make sure you havení»t left anything out or make mistakes during the process.

l Confirm Before Action: MultiWin 2 will confirm the user before proceeding with the selected function.

l Quick Action: This mode assumes that the user is quite used to MultiWin 2, and it goes on to do the selected function immediately. This was the only mode MultiWin 1 had run on.

iii) Save: This button will save all the settings and update the Windows list.

iv) Enter Registration Key! : (Unregistered) Press this button to enter registration information that you receive when you register MultiWin 2.

v) REGISTER ON-LINE NOW!! : (Unregistered) To register immediately via Internet, press this button. It will take you to RegNow! on-line registration page.

vi) TRIALS LEFT: (Unregistered) Shows you how many times MultiWin 2 can be used before it expires. You have 15 trials. After MultiWin 2 expires, it will stop functioning, so please register it before this happens.

vii) This product isíª: (Registered) Registered userí»s name appears here.

E. Troubleshooting Information

1. 'The file (File name) is out of date. This program requires a newer version' error

Some of the files that MultiWin 2 uses are already in use by another application, preventing MultiWin 2 from automatically updating it. One of such files is too old for MultiWin 2 to correctly operate with, and produces this error. Run í«ErrorFix.batí» file in MultiWin 2 folder and reboot to fix this problem.

2. Caní»t boot to Windows after pressing 'Install Another' button

MultiWin 2 changes your system so that it woní»t boot to the previous Windows when youí»ve pressed that button. You must literally install another Windows before you can go back to the previous Windows.

3. MultiWin 2í»s shutdown process crashes Windows

Some other program may have conflicted with MultiWin 2í»s shutdown operation. It is recommended that you close other applications when you use MultiWin 2.

4. Other problems

E-mail the exact situation to WDSoftware for more help.
