What's new in this version?

This section describes the StarOffice Draw options.

It is now possible to convert text in polygons and 3D objects that were not created in Windows.

It is now also possible in UNIX and OS/2 to convert text in polygons and 3D objects. This is done by vectoring the converted bitmap converted fonts. Fontwork's outline functions are now available under UNIX and OS/2.

Optimized bitmap graphic output

Displaying of bitmap graphics was completely revamped. With the result that graphics are significantly better. For example, through this improvement, scaled graphics no longer appear "clumped".

More 3D conversions

3D conversions have been enhanced both in functionality and convertible objects. You can now directly convert groups (containing convertible objects) into bitmaps and metafiles. Every time more than one object is to be converted, the scaled sorting (foreground/background) mainly in 2D will be used to create a group of different scaled 3D objects. This preserves the visible entities mainly in 2D after conversion. This also means that complex clipart objects can be directly converted into 3D. Furthermore, StarOffice can now convert draw objects with text so that the text is readable.

Modified control points

The small graphic objects called control points (also known as handles) which become visible when you select an object have been revised and improved.

Functionality in StarOffice Draw

This section contains an overview of some of the capabilities of StarOffice Draw, the module for drawing under StarOffice.

StarOffice Draw uses the vector graphic format to support you when creating drawings. In principle you can create all the same features with StarOffice Draw as you can with StarOffice Impress, with the exception of the presentation capability.

Draw in the usual ways straight lines, free lines, bezier curves and other types of rectangles and geometrical figures. The 3D functions can be used to create 3D objects such as cubes, spheres, cylinders, tori and more. You can also rotate your own two dimensional contours in the third dimension. Choose coloring, with bitmap textures if required, perspectives and illumination and you will create impressive 3D objects for your invitation cards, brochures and business cards.

Use StarOffice Draw to create buttons and icons for your Web pages quickly and easily and export them as GIF, JPG, PNG or other formats.

There are many assistants to help your create exact drawings. Define a grid to which your object is to be snapped while constructing and moving, or temporarily snap new objects to the edges and points of existing objects. The size of the object can be altered at any time by entering the required measurements in the Properties dialog. It is also simple to insert dimension lines which can be used in a variety of ways.
