Election law endangered?
The controversial amendment to the electoral law seems to face an uncertain future. After a smooth passage through the lower house, the bill now has to contend with tough opposition in the Senate. Failure would raise the threat of renewed political instability in the country.

EU calls for legislation on tobacco consumption
The European Union's Lisbon summit came to an end on Tuesday, and candidate countries have a better idea of what changes in the legal system they need to make to join the EU. One complex issue is smoking. The Czech Republic is trying to crack down on underage smoking, but the law on tobacco consumption still needs to be changed.
