Congratulations on your download of GpsPilot Compass software package. This README file contains important information about how to install and use GpsPilot Compass software.

Content of the Compass.zip package.

Installation of the software Compass and its components.

You can extract the entire zip file under your C:\pilot\add-on directory.

Install the files Compass.prc and MathLib.prc using the standard Palm install tool.

Get the database file for your state/country : http://www.GpsPilot.com/Data/PDBFiles/CITY_.ZIP . You can get any locational database (ZIP format) you like from the GPS Pilot download site at htpp://www.GpsPilot.com/GpDownload.htm

Set your Palm in its cradle and HotSync.

Tutorial and First steps.

Plug your GPS Receiver in the Palm serial port. Check the GPS receiver section at http://www.GpsPilot.com/GPReceiver.htm for more information about the GPS Receiver-Palm connection.

Select the Compass icon on your Palm device, you get the GPS details screen.

Set the initial position and UTC to init the GPS receiver for the first use:

Click "Set" to choose a location nearest to you

Click the pop up list in the top right corner of the point list screen to select the City database, you loaded. Shortly after, all the cities of this database will be listed in longitude order.

To select a location, write its first few letters in the 'Find' field and click on the 'Find' button. Shortly after, all the location containing the "find" sub string will be displayed.

Click on the location name you are looking for. You get the Point detail\par screen. Click on the 'OK' button to return to Compass main screen.

Click the arrow next to UTC to set the universal time to Greenwich England (US time + 6/7/8 hours).

After 1 to 3 minutes, Compass will display your position, speed and direction.

When the title shows "Gps Ok" exit the application with the GPS plugged to save the default values (position and UTC) in the application preferences.
