DESIGNWAVE REVISION 1.0 READ ME CONTENTS DesignWave System Requirements Installing and Uninstalling Frequently Asked Questions Parasolid Import/Export Printing and Plotting Memory Usage Services Considerations DesignWave System Requirements The minimum configuration for DesignWave Revision 1.0 is: - Intel 90MHz Pentium - 16MB RAM - 20 MB required for software and examples - Windows95 or NT4.0 operating system - Windows graphic display setting of 65536 colors, or High Color 16-bit. For complex models or large assemblies, you may want to consider increasing the amount of physical memory on your machine or using a machine with a faster processor. Installing and Uninstalling On Windows NT, you must have Administrator privileges to install and uninstall software. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Please check the FAQ for valuable advice and use of alternative procedures for creating production quality models and drawings. The FAQ can be accessed by using the Support command on the Help menu. Parsolid Import/Export The Parasolid Import command recognizes file extensions in the form of *.xmt or *.x_t only. All other file types (e.g. *.xmt_txt) must be renamed to one of these forms before Import will recognize them. Parasolid Export is not affected. Printing & plotting When printing part views to a large, high resolution format, a large amount of memory may be required, depending on the printer driver and whether you are running Windows NT or Windows 95. Because of this, you may find the print operation to be somewhat slow. This will not occur when printing drawing views. Memory Usage DesignWave is implemented to optimize display performance by using multiple display lists. Each display list will use a certain amount of memory based on the number of entities being displayed. If you are on Windows NT and are going to use multiple views of large parts, assemblies or drawings, you will want to adjust the size of your virtual memory paging file upwards. Your paging file size can be accessed from the Control Panel under System Properties -> Virtual Memory. We are currently working on tuning DesignWave to optimize this performance vs. memory tradeoff.
