Registry/Registrar WHOIS and WHOIS-HTTP Modes
Hints & Tricks:
»Tuning for best performance
Lookup Registry WHOIS
Registry WHOIS provides basic information about domain name such as its creation time, status, name servers.
If you want to check domain availability using WHOIS, select this setting and clear Also Lookup Registrar WHOIS setting.
Also Lookup Registrar WHOIS
Registrar WHOIS (also called Referral WHOIS) provides as much information about domain name as possible.
Usually this information includes Expiration Date, Registrant (Owner) information, Technical Contacts and so on.
WHOIS and HTTP Modes
WHOIS mode uses WHOIS servers to retrieve domain information while HTTP mode uses HTTP server if it's possible.
If a request to server fails, the program can use another mode when it's allowed.
Recommended value: both WHOIS and HTTP Modes selected.
Hints & Tricks:
Tuning for best performance
WHOIS lookups are useful for brief but not too accurate domain list availability check (use Registry only) and for
retrieving Expiration Dates (also select Registrar WHOIS).
To scan soon-to-expire domain list, use Real-Time Availability check.
