Real-Time Protection
Immediately after the startup (that is indicated by the redicon in the system tray), Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal scans all objects executed at the operating system startup, as well as the computer memory and its program modules.
Real-time protection of your computer will use settings recommended by Kaspersky Labs experts as follows:
- Objects being opened, saved or executed on your hard drive and removable drives that can be potentially infected will be scanned, including:
- disk boot sectors (these objects are scanned immediately after the system startup);
- packed files and objects linked or embedded into files ( OLE objects);
- incoming e-mail messages (upon receipt).
- When an infected object is detected, the program denies access to this object and prompts the user for action.
- When an object that is possibly infected with a virus or a virus modification is detected, the program denies access to this object and prompts user for action.
- The results of all actions of the program are documented in reports (see section Working with reports).
Real-time anti-virus protection is enabled automatically after the system startup and remains active until the system shuts down.
- Right-click the
icon in the system tray.
- When the shortcut menu appears, select Disable Real-Time Protection.
Real-time protection of your computer will be then disabled and the activeicon (red) will turn inactive
(gray).

We do not recommend that you disable real-time anti-virus protection because this considerably increases the risk of a virus infection.
