Killer App | |
Beware the killer app, my son. Actually, it can't hurt you... unless someone drops it on your head. I'm often told I sound like items have been dropped on my head for years... or that I need to be dropped on my head. Ouch. Anyway, "killer app" is a label given to an application (program) that changes the way we think and operate on a daily basis. Web browsers were considered killer apps -- as they enticed folks to run out and buy a computer to join other computers on a global network. Calling upon an earlier illustration, spreadsheets changed businesses overnight. No brain could crunch numbers quite so quickly. Can someone set out to create a killer app? Sure, but there's no guarantee. What's going to be the killer app this year? Some say instant messaging, and others say wireless Internet access. I still say the ultimate example is e-mail. What else do you unconsciously check every five minutes? |
