At Microsoft, we are committed to protecting your privacy and to developing powerful technology. You can use most features of Microsoft Money 2004 without giving us any information about yourself, but sometimes we do need information to provide services that you request, and this Privacy Statement explains the data collection and use in those situations.áá Please read the complete Money 2004 Privacy Statement.á Please be aware that this Privacy Statement and the choices you make within this product will not necessarily apply to personal information you may have provided to Microsoft in the context of other, separately operated, Microsoft products or services.

In accordance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, the privacy notice for Money 2004 consumers is provided through the inclusion of this Privacy Statement in a clear and conspicuous manner in the Money 2004 product (go to Help/About Microsoft Money/Privacy Statement to view this Privacy Statement at any time).áá By using Money 2004, you acknowledge receipt of this statement and agree to its terms.á

 

 

Collection of your Personal Information

Providing personal information to Microsoft through features of Microsoft Money 2004 is voluntary.á There are two principle methods by which you may choose to provide personal information.á

First, you may voluntarily provide your personal contact information (name, postal address and e-mail address) to Microsoft through the ôSign Up to Receive Special Offersö screen in the Money 2004 product.á By doing so, you will be consenting to receive offers related to products and services of Microsoft and its partners from time to time.á

Second, you may submit financial data, consisting of some or all of the content of your Money file, if you choose to use the MSN Money Synchronization feature.

 

Use of your Personal Information

Except as otherwise described in this Privacy Statement, personal information you provide to Microsoft via the Money 2004 product will not be shared outside of Microsoft and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates without your permission.

If you want to receive information from Microsoft about its products and services, complete the appropriate fields in the ôSign Up to Receive Special Offersö screen.á If you do not want to receive this information by postal mail, you should leave the address fields in the ôSign Up to Receive Special Offersö screen blank.á If you sign up to receive informational or promotional e-mail from Microsoft, you may later unsubscribe by following the instructions in any e-mail sent to you.

Additionally, other companies carefully selected by Microsoft may send you information about products and services through postal mail.áá If you do not want to receive this information, do not select the ôPlease send me third party offersö option in the ôSign Up to Receive Special Offersö screen.

Microsoft will use the data submitted by you via the MSN Money Synchronization feature only to populate, and synchronize with, your MSN Money investment portfolio and bank accounts.   Microsoft will not mine your financial data or use it to target advertising.á Data that you submit to MSN Money via the MSN Money Synchronization feature will be subject to the MSN Statement of Privacy, and by using this feature, you acknowledge and accept the terms of that Privacy Statement.

We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, such as packaging, sending and delivering purchases and other mailings, answering customer questions about products or services, processing event registration, or performing statistical analysis of our services.á We will only provide those companies the information they need to deliver the service, and they are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.

Microsoft may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Microsoft or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Microsoft and its family of Web sites, or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Microsoft, its Web sites, or the public.

Personal information you submit to Microsoft may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries or agents maintain facilities, and by submitting the information, you consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country.

 

Security of Personal Information

Microsoft works to protect the security of the personal information you provide.áá Personal information we collect is stored in password-controlled servers with limited access, and we take steps to protect this information from loss or misuse, and from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.á MicrosoftÆs sophisticated 128-bit encryption technology helps protect the information that is downloaded from your bank or brokerage to Money 2004. áá Use of the MSN Money Synchronization feature requires that you upload information, and your permission is required for this upload.á The information uploaded through the MSN Money Synchronization feature is encrypted and resides on security-enhanced servers at Microsoft.

 

Use of Microsoft Passport

This product uses the Microsoft Passport service, which makes your online experience automatically downloading data from financial institutions easier and more secure.á To set up automatic downloads from financial institutions to Money 2004, you need to store your personal identification numbers or PINs in Money, but you can protect them by simply setting up a Passport to password help protect your Money 2004 file.áá When you register for a Passport by linking to MicrosoftÆs Passport site through this product, a Passport profile is created, and the Passport service assigns a personal identification number and sends it to your computer in the form of a small text file, called a "cookie." The use of this cookie allows you to also visit other participating Passport Web sites without having to sign in to each Web site.
