History and cache preferences

These settings are for fine-tuning Opera's low-level performance.

The default settings work perfectly well for normal browsing. Only advanced users with special needs and understanding should need to modify these settings.

History

Here you can set how far back Opera should remember...

Links you have followed in a single browser window (click the down arrows on the Back and Forward buttons)
Web page addresses you have typed in manually in the address field (click the down arrow next to the Web address field)
Web pages you have visited altogether (opera:history)

Disk and RAM cache

The disk and RAM cache has been pre-set to work with most modern computers.

One setting that still could come in handy for common users though, is to increase the size of the disk cache, to make Opera locally store content from pages you have visited even a while ago.

Likewise, users with very old computers may want to lower some values, depending on the size of their RAM and hard drive.

Check modified

When visiting a page you have been to before, Opera normally checks if the page has been updated since last time. This however, requires additional requests back and forth. Since many pages aren't updated very often, and you may not care to see the absolutely latest update every time, checking for modifications less often may accelerate your browsing experience.

Some sites redirect you to a different page than the one you attempt to view. Since this requires additional requests back and forth, disabling redirection checking may accelerate your browsing experience. Note: This may however lead to some Web pages not loading as intended, so do this with caution.
