The first time you send a Web site to the Internet you need to create a new Destination Setting. By creating a new Destination Setting you will be able to easily upload your site to the Internet. You must create a Destination Setting for each Web account you have. (Many people have several Web space providers. You can make a setting for each one in Web Studio!)
Once created you do not have to enter this information again. Web Studio will save it for you, making subsequent uploads as easy as pushing the Upload button!
To create your Destination Setting you will need to know the following:
Web Space Provider (e.g. your ISP, a Hosting company, Free Web sites)
User ID
Password
Host Directory (Not applicable to all)
You can find the above information in the confirmation E-mail you received when you signed up for your Web account. If you cannot find the E-mail, contact your Web account provider and they will provide you with the information.
Note: If you do not have access to Web space through your ISP, check out the Web for some of the companies that offer free Web space. Many companies offer as much as 20 MB of Web site space!
Before you enter in information about your Web space account, give it a name that will identify it to you as your Web space provider. (e.g. "My ISP")
Choose a name for your setting. If you choose "Other", enter the name of your ISP or Host. This name will appear in the "Available Destinations" box on the Upload page. (After completing this wizard each time you chose File>Save Web Site to Internet you will see an "Available Destinations" box that will list all the places you have entered into the Web Studio Upload Wizard.)
Destination
Choose your Web account here. If you don't see the company that provides you with Web space, choose Other.
Identification
Enter your Web account user name and password. Check the "Save Password" box and Web Studio will save the information for you so you do not have to enter it again!
Directory Path
Enter the directory path required to post your Web site using FTP. This is the place that people usually have problems. It was mentioned earlier that this is like your home street address. This is the exact location, or folder that your Web site will be placed on the "host" computer. You must know this address and you must enter it EXACTLY!!!!. Just as in major cities Main St. can be quite different from Main Rd., your directory path is singularly unique. Make sure you follow the following rules.
Include the entire directory. (If you don't know it, contact your Web space provider for help.)
Type the directory in case sensitive manner. (e.g. My Site is different from my site)
Make sure your slashes are in the right places, there are enough of them and they are going the right direction.
For specific help contact your Web space provider, check the upload page, or click on the Link to Sierra button at the start of the Wizard and go to our "Post your Site" Web page which contains specific instructions for many companies.
FTP Address
Enter the FTP address provided by your Web account provider. If you do not know this, please contact your Web account provider and ask them for their "FTP Address".
Home Page
Enter the complete World Wide Web address for your Home page. This may be used later to preview your uploaded site.
Once you upload your site you can preview it instantly if you have provided this information.
