Web Studio Objects

Web Studio allows you to design Web pages quite unlike other Web authoring programs. With Web Studio the design process is primarily drag n drop. Because of this you can manipulate objects on your page differently (easier!) than in other programs.

Here are the two major differences:

1. You can position objects anywhere on the page you wish.

2. You can overlap objects or stack objects on top of one another.

Positioning Objects

Each page element that you drop onto your page is a unique object. These objects can be moved around the page, resized, stacked on top of each other, aligned with others, etc. It is just like having a deck of cards on your desktop.

Overlapping Objects

Another "rule" of the Web is that objects on a Web page cannot overlap. Web Studio takes care of this rule for you as well. You can overlap or stack objects in any Web Studio page. Web Studio figures out what to do to satisfy the "rules" when it puts the page on the Web.

Front To Back Ordering

In order to overlap objects, you need to place one on top of another. Web Studio has what is called a "stacking order" for its objects. The first object you put on a page is at the bottom of the stack. The next object is second in the order and so on. This is identical to placing a piece of paper on your desk and then placing another on top of it.

Web Studio allows you to change the stacking order of the objects to suit your needs. Use the Object Menu or right click over any object to use the various stacking order commands such as "Bring Selected Object to Front".

Selection Handles

Click over any object and you will see a group of black boxes surround that object. These are called handles. The handles indicate that the object has been selected. Objects that you drag on the page become selected. In addition you can select objects without moving them.

Click on the background of the page and the selection handles are removed from the sign.

Resizing an Object

You can change the size of any object on your page. Simply select it if it is not already selected, then move the mouse over one of the handles and drag the handle.

Resizing with and without Distortion

Web Studio's standard method of resizing with the corner handles is useful for resizing photographs and other objects that shouldn't be distorted.

However, If you are resizing an object and don't want it to retain its proportions simply press the Shift key while dragging one of the corner handles.
