Installing Additional Software

Plug-ins are software modules that enrich your experience on the World Wide Web. Plug-ins work with Netscape Communicator to bring you sound, video, animation, and interaction from web pages. The table below shows the plug-ins that are automatically installed as part of Dial-Up Edition.

LiveAudio	Playing sounds on web pages.
LiveVideo (Windows only)	Playing video on web pages.
Cosmo Player (Windows only)	Viewing and moving through virtual reality 3-D documents on web pages.
Media Player (Windows only)	Listening to audio on web pages without waiting for the files to download.
QuickTime Plugin	Playing QuickTime movies on web pages.
Macromedia Shockwave Essentials (Windows only)	Playing Director and Flash multimedia and animations on web pages.

To find out more about the plug-ins that are installed with Dial-Up Edition, do one of the following:

(Windows) Choose About Plug-ins from the Help menu.
(Macintosh) Choose About Plug-ins from the Apple menu.

Note: If you have any third-party plug-ins installed in the Plugins folder from a previous version of Navigator, you will need to reinstall the plug-ins in the Communicator Plugins folder.

Installing Dial-Up Edition bonus plug-ins

In addition to the automatically installed Communicator plug-ins, Dial-Up Edition contains several bonus plug-ins that provide even more interaction for web pages. These plug-ins must be installed separately. The table below describes the bonus Dial-Up Edition plug-ins. The availability of the plug-ins varies by the platform (Windows or Macintosh) that you're using.

Headspace Beatnik	Playing high-quality interactive sound on web pages.
ichat	Real-time text chatting with friends, celebrities, or others who share your same interests around the world.
Narrative Enliven	Viewing multimedia on web pages without waiting for the files to download.
Vivo VivoActive	Viewing video from web pages without waiting for the files to download.
Voxware ToolVox	Listening to voice clips on web pages.

Follow these steps to install the bonus plug-ins:

Place the Dial-Up Edition CD in your CD-ROM drive.

Do one of the following:

(Windows) Click the Bonus Plugs-Ins button in the Installer screen. When the Bonus Plug-ins screen appears, click the icon for the plug-in you want to install.
(Macintosh) Double-click the Extra Plug-ins icon in the Netscape Communicator folder. Each plug-in is contained in a separate folder, which contains an installer and a readme file. Open the individual folder and double-click the Install icon.
