3.23 Advanced Host Settings

Remote dir: - you can choose to enter a remote directory where mFTP will end up, once connected. For instance, if you were connecting to a generic ftp server such as 'ftp.vapor.com', you could enter '/pub/mftp/' into this box, mFTP would connect to the ftp site and end up in '/pub/mftp/'.
Local dir: - you can choose to open a local directory when you connect to a remote server. For instance, say you were connecting to a server which hosted your home page, you might want to open a local directory containing your source html and graphics files.
Host type: - the type of host that you are connecting to. In nearly all circumstances it is advisable to leave this set to 'auto' (automatic). mFTP will connect to the ftp server and determine the host type automatically.
Treat link as: - when you connect to an ftp server you may see quick access links within the lister window. For instance, if you connected to a public ftp server such as 'ftp.demon.co.uk' you may notice an Aminet link such as '>Aminet'. This allows immediate access to the Aminet, located on this server and prevents longwinded searching through sub-directories to find the correct directory, manually.
It is advisable to leave this set to 'auto' (automatic). mFTP will connect to the ftp server, check any links available, and will determine whether they are file or directory links.
Transfer mode: - choose between ASCII and binary mode. In ASCII mode, transferring ASCII text files will be very quick, nearly twice as quick as transferring binary files in binary mode. However, this only applies to ASCII text files (such as html, txt etc).
Mostly you will be transferring a mixture of binary and ASCII files, so it is advisable to leave this setting to 'binary'.
Window type: - the style of window you want to use when connecting to your chosen ftp site. You can choose from dual-window mode: this opens one large window with your download directory on one side and the remote ftp server on the other. The other option is to open a single list. This opens a single window and it is up to you to open a local directory.
Transfer buffer: - the amount of memory allocated for a file transfer.
Output history: - when you connect to an ftp site, you'll see a status window at the bottom of your lister (if you have 'Show ftp output' checked on). You can choose how many lines of information mFTP will buffer at any one point in time.
Show ftp output - enable the status window at the bottom of a lister window. When connecting to an ftp site, you'll see a status window at the bottom of the page, showing connection and server information. You can choose to turn this off (on as default) and save space.
Show hidden files - show hidden files on the ftp server.
Use proxy - use the proxy server you entered into the general settings.
Seen NOOP's - send NOOP's to the remote server in order to keep you connected. If you are idle for a given period of time (anything from 30 seconds to a few minutes, although this can vary depending on the server setup) you will be disconnected from the server. If you choose to send NOOP's to the remote server, the server will assume you are still active and will keep you connected.
