Introduction

The Earth offers a wide range of habitats to plant and animal life (biomes). Physical factors such as latitude, altitude and climate determine the dominant natural vegetation in a particular area. Plant life helps the accumulation of soil and, in turn, the type of soil influences the types of plants which can grow.
