New and Secondhand RISC OS computer systems APDL can supply any new models offered by any of the main manufacturers of RISC OS machines. However, unless you have a good reason for preferring to buy through us it's normally better to get a new machine directly from the manufacturer. RiscPC second sliceSecond slice for RiscPC, complete with 4 slot backplane and longer locking pins. Secondhand computersWe usually have a variety of secondhand machines in available. If you don't see what you want please ask as we can build a machine to your requirements, bigger hard drive, more RAM, Strong ARM processor, etc. As well as the ones shown below we often have older machines such as A400, A540, A3000, A5000, etc. Some of these are in good working order, some not but suitable for spare parts. If you need a floppy drive, keyboard, power supply, whatever, for an old Acorn computer we just might have one.
All the above machines are complete with mouse, keyboard and power lead except the A3020s which come without a mouse. Carriage is extra at cost, typically about £13. Some machines may have school name and/or postcode etched into the case. MonitorsWe have various secondhand monitors including Acorn AKF60/65, the standard 14" monitor as supplied with the RiscPC and A7000 models. These cost £12 plus carriage or just £5 plus carriage when purchased with a computer. We can also supply new monitors, both CRT and TFT. We do not normally list these or keep large numbers in stock as they are generic PC items but if you do want a monitor we will try our best to help. Network cardsWe usually have stocks of 10 base T network cards for the RiscPC or A7000. Normally these are I-cubed with recent firmware. These cost £25 or just £18 when purchased with a computer. Risc PC PC cardsWe usually have various 486 and 586 second processors for the RiscPC in stock. These range from the early 486 SXL-40 up to 133 Mhz 586. The 486-40 is ideal for running old DOS programs, especially games. Since this is equivalent to the fastest processors in general use at the time Windows took over as the standard PC OS almost any pre-Windows programs will run at least as fast as originally intended, sometimes much faster. For use with Windows you really need a 586 processor. This will run Windows 3.1 at adequate speed, Windows 95 or 98 is just about adequate, but anything later is painfully slow. You can't run Windows NT on any PC card. If you order a PC card with any RiscPC we will install it with driver software and a small PC "partition" with DOS installed. If you purchase it separately we will supply the "basic" driver software on floppy disc and you will need to obtain the OS (DOS or Windows). If you want to run Windows on a PC card or with versions of RISC OS after 3.7 you really need the PCPro driver software from Aleph One. This used to be commercial software costing over £60 but has now been released under the GPL and is available for download from riscos info Prices are -
Please add £3 UK carriage if not purchased with a computer. It is best to contact us before ordering a PC card to ensure that we have the type you want available. |
